PARIS ADVENTURE 2022
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
* Is this a workshop ?: This is NOT a traditional workshop where I lecture, demo and provide easel assistance to students daily. This is a unique Painting, Art history and cultural experience where we will paint together as a group and include visits to cultural institutions and experiences relevant to the historic, cultural and artistic contributions of Impressionist painting.
* Will you teach at all ?: There will be a Pre-Paris painting session at my Gallery in Portsmouth, NH, where we will paint together as a group and go over your gear and discuss / demonstrate painting strategies that were pioneered by the Impressionist to economize and simplify outdoor painting. This can be done via ZOOM if you cant make it or live out of state). I will contact you regarding the date of our gallery painting session. While in Paris, I will be available for painting assistance if needed and provide group critiques. I will also provide short, 18 minute slide shows during cafe downtime that have relevance to the art, history and cultural excursions and painting locations we will be visiting. We also have a private, art history tour at the D'Orsay museum and at Giverny visiting Monets water lillies, gardens and studio.
* Where we will we stay?: I have booked a room at a Paris hotel in the seventh Arrondissemont, convenienntly located within a twenty miniute walk or metro from 80% of our daily painting sites. I will share my hotel info with you and encourage you to stay there as that will be half the fun. You will pay for your own room and are not obligated to stay at the same hotel as the group, its simply available if you wish...and much more fun and convenient to be in the same place as the grouop. There is another hotel on the same block, a number of nearby air bnb's as well. Im happy to assist you in booking your room. This is a small group and I am encouraging we stay together.
* Is this appropriate for beginner painters?: Yes, its perfectly fine. This experience is best suited for someone who has studied with me before or at least has painted outdoors but not neccesary. Ideally, you have some drawing and out door painting experience. If not, call me to discuss. This is NOT a workshop where I will be demonstrating and teaching you how to draw and paint. I will be there as a mentor, proivide critiques and to assist if needed. If you would like Plein air painting lessons before we go, my school has plenty of options or Im happy to schedule a few private sessions with you.
* Is it ok if I use mediums other than oils?: Yes. Please feel free to use any medium you wish to express yourself. I would only advise to keep it portable and I can definitely assist you with that.
* Can I bring my spouse or partner?: Yes, but please understand that this experience is limited to seven only and that if your spouse or partner comes they will have to pay for their space. Part of the allure of this experience is the intimacy of a small group and the advantages it provides as apposed to the limitations that come with a traditional 14 student workshop.
* What do we do if it rains?: There are a number of excellent monuments, structures and architectural wonders that have been scouted in Paris that provide perfectly dry coverage with a variety of motifs to paint from. Alternatively, it is an excellent opportunity to also do some cafe sketching in oils or a sketchbook.
