HOW I MAKE A PICTURE (Todd Bonita)

Picture
How I make a picture
A step-by-step process I use in my Layer and Glazing workshop.  This process pre-dates the Rennaissance and is one of the simplest ways to paint and achieve your desired effect with oil paint.

I use both color and black and white photos as reference. I print them proportionally to the same dimensions as the canvas. I us a simple grid to draw in charcoal first.
My tools are simple to begin: (1) Refined linseed oil, (2) raw umber oil paint and (3) a paint brush, Thats it!
Apply oil to a rag or shop towel. Not too much...I like the blue painters shop towels.
